SALOME® MENSTRUAL PAIN is a traditional herbal medicinal product for the symptomatic treatment of minor spasms associated with menstrual periods.⁴

YARROW (Achillea millefolium) has: antispasmodic, anti-inflammatory & analgesic effects which may provide relief for spasms associated with menstrual periods.⁴

  • Achillea millefolium (also known as Yarrow) is among plants whose effectiveness in the treatment of primary dysmenorrhoea has been examined.³
  • SALOME® MENSTRUAL PAIN contains the active substance Yarrow Dry extract Ratio 4:1 [Achillea millefolium L.]⁴
  • Extracts of Yarrow have been traditionally used to treat inflammatory and spasmodic disorders.²
  • Yarrow inhibits cyclo-oxygenase enzyme due to the presence of flavonoids and alkaloids, therefore, can be effective as an anti prostaglandin in treating the initial painful menstruation.3,6
  • Yarrow also causes inhibition of smooth muscle contractions in the intestine, and has anticontractile effects on the smooth muscles of the uterus which can have a very powerful effect in relieving pain during menstruation.3

About Dysmenorrhoea

WHAT IS DYSMENORRHOEA?

  • Dysmenorrhoea is defined as painful cramps that occur with menstruation.¹
  • Dysmenorrhoea is considered primary when any other underlying pathological conditions have been ruled out and is most common in the late teens and early twenties.¹
  • Although estimates of its prevalence vary widely, it is the most common gynaecological problem in women of all ages and races.¹
  • Secondary dysmenorrhoea results from specific pelvic pathology, eg. endometriosis.¹

DIAGNOSIS OF PRIMARY DYSMENORRHOEA

  • The diagnosis of primary dysmenorrhoea is based on clinical history and physical examination.¹
  • A family history may be helpful in differentiating primary from secondary dysmenorrhoea.¹
  • Some of the risk factors include irregular menstrual cycles, clinically suspected pelvic inflammatory disease.¹
  • This clinical diagnosis should exclude conditions which may have a similar clinical presentation, such as: pregnancy, pelvic inflammatory disease, endometriosis and chronic pelvic pain.¹

TREATMENT OF PRIMARY DYSMENORRHOEA

  • Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are recommended as the first-line treatment for primary dysmenorrhoea.¹
  • The choice of NSAID should be based on effectiveness and tolerability for the individual patient.¹
  • Oral, intravaginal, and intra-uterine hormonal contraceptives have also been recommended in the treatment of primary dysmenorrhoea.¹

Directions for use

HOW TO TAKE SALOME® MENSTRUAL PAIN⁴

  • Always take SALOME® MENSTRUAL PAIN exactly as your doctor has instructed you. You should check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are unsure.
  • The usual dose is 1 – 2 capsules three times daily.⁴

IF YOU TAKE MORE SALOME® MENSTRUAL PAIN THAN YOU SHOULD:⁴

  • No case of overdose has been reported. In the event of overdosage, consult your doctor or pharmacist. If neither is available, contact the nearest hospital or poison control centre.

IF YOU FORGET TO TAKE SALOME® MENSTRUAL PAIN:⁴

  • Do not take a double dose to make up for forgotten individual doses.
